To help nourish the lives of at-risk Afghans year-round, we have our Annual Family Sponsorship Program. Under this long-running program, sponsors pledge a modest monthly financial stipend – USD 50 per month – for one year. We will bundle the funds we receive from generous donors each month and work closely with a small group of families to help them become more self reliant by providing:
This program targets some of Afghanistan’s most needy citizens. We find that almost every family selected to participate in this program does not eat meat regularly, does not have access to running water in their homes, is widowed with responsibility for caring for many children, and may have family members with life-threatening illnesses or injuries that handicap them from doing even the most basic daily tasks .
Happily, families who have received sponsors through our program have become healthier because they can afford food and medicine, and their children are able to attend school for the first time in their lives as opposed to having to beg in the streets.
Access to clean water in Afghanistan is scarce and illnesses caused by dirty water are common. This leads to unnecessary suffering or even worse, death. To alleviate this, the Bayat Foundation has established a program to dig wells in areas where clean water was not previously available. With each well that is placed in a new neighborhood, more Afghans get the opportunity to have a resource to safe and clean drinking water.
